Star Citizen: Blockade Runner Teaser
Blockade Runner is a server-wide event featuring space combat and cargo hauling. An enemy force has attacked a station and maintains an active blockade around it. The enemy has also managed to steal crates of Zeta-Prolanide. Players must work together to reclaim the stolen supplies and transport it past the blockade, fighting off enemy ships along the way.
Star Citizen is a game that is powered by a large number of interconnected systems. Developing content for this game requires a designer to work within these systems. For example, Blockade Runner was created without any "hand placed" content of any sort. I had to develop systemic solutions in order to create the content I wanted to show for this event. This was achieved by hooking into the core systems that power Star Citizen, and tweaking them until I got the result I wanted.
Since Blockade Runner is driven by systems rather than “hand placed” content, it is actually quite flexible. We decided that this event would cycle between the four main space stations in the Stanton System, but it could actually be run at just about any mission location throughout the Star Citizen universe. Future runs of this event may take advantage of this, and place the blockade at some other location.
I made a few appearances on the show "Inside Star Citizen". You can find me sprinkled throughout the following two videos as I discuss Blockade Runner.
